Soul food Stamps

ROLE: research, ideation, print design, illustration

The objective of this stamp series project was made to highlight a marginalized community or topic. During this time I was simultaneously taking a food justice class where we had just talked about soul food. This style of cooking originated during American slavery when African slaves had to make use of the ingredients available to them, often having to rely on leftovers and vegetables grown themselves. Soul food played an important role in the Civil Rights Movement by feeding the activists changing our nation and brought the African American community together during hard times. Its rich and important history ties Black culture to its African roots, and it still plays a big role in bringing families and the community together today.
